The Halloween Book Tag

Hello everyone,

It is Halloween this weekend and so that makes it the perfect opportunity to have a go at the eponymous book tag for the very first time! Thank you so much to Mek @ The Critiques Of A Fangirl for tagging me, she is an amazing blogger so do check out her post.

Let’s get straight on with answering the questions!

1.) Favourite Scary (Must Read) For Halloween?

If you are looking for something spooky, Gothic, and genuinely frightening, then you cannot go wrong with The Silent Companions. The atmosphere is dark and gloomy as a hoard of sinister life-sized wooden ornaments cast a deadly curse over a house. The death count is high, the plot is fiendish, and the book as a whole is not for the faint of heart.

2.) Scariest Book Cover, Like Ever?

I do not know about anybody else, but just seeing the image of the distorted face with hollow eyes is enough to make me shudder just a little. The dark background and ghostly arms reaching out towards the figure add to the creepy vibes.

3.) If You Could Go Trick-or-Treating With Any Author, Who Would You Pick?

Chloe Gong was the first author that came into my head for this question. I am not sure why, apart from the fact I am sure she would make trick or treating really fun.

4.) If You Could Dress Up As Any Bookish Character For Halloween, Who Would You Be?

Having read the Six Of Crows duology and watched the Netflix adaptation of Shadow And Bone, I developed quite an admiration for Kaz Brekker’s attire. There are many reasons why he is a magnificent character, and his dress sense is definitely one of them. It would be great to have the chance to dress up in that costume.

5.) If You Could Find Anything (From Any Book) In Your Trick-or-Treat Stash, What Would You Hope To Find?

It took my a long time to think of an answer to this question, but I finally decided on one of the spell books or fairytales from The Once And Future Witches. I loved the imagination that went into writing that book.

6.) In What Fictional World Would You Like To Go Trick-or-Treating?

Another difficult question! I would probably say either Narnia, or the Supernatural Bureau in Amari And The Night Brothers.

7.) What Book Villain Would You Not Like To Meet Alone In A Dark Alley On Halloween?

I recently read Mexican Gothic and honestly, Virgil Doyle is one of the most evil, terrifying characters I have ever come across. I would not like to meet him in a dark alley on any day, let alone Halloween!

8.) Would You Rather Dress Up As A Vampire, Zombie, Werewolf, or Shadowhunter?

Probably a vampire, although werewolf comes a close second! To be honest I do not really know what a Shadowhunter looks like.

9.) What Is Your Favourite Halloween Sweet?

I do not eat food that is specific to Halloween, so like Mek I might have to skip this question!

10.) Carving Pumpkins – What Book Would You Carve Up And Light On Fire?

All I can say is that when I read this book earlier in the year I was relieved that I did not purchase a physical copy. I had it on my Kindle instead and it was the most tortuous read I have encountered in a long time. I lost interest very early on and the storytelling was very poor in my opinion.

11.) Trick Or Treat – What Character Is A Trick, What Character Is A Treat?

I really connected with the character of Seol in The Silence Of Bones, she had that perfect blend of spirit, independence, and compassion, so she is my Treat.

As for the Trick, I would say Rebecca de Winter herself. She does not appear in the novel, but her enigmatic presence is keenly felt.

12.) Candy Corn – What Book Is Always Sweet?

This has to be the sweetest book I have ever read, with the sweetest characters and the sweetest slow burn romance.

13.) Ghosts – What Character Would You Love To Visit You As A Ghost?

I have absolutely no idea! I do not really fancy the idea of being visited by any ghost…

Let’s Chat

What would be your answers to some of these questions? Do you agree with any of mine? Let me know in the comments!

I am not going to tag anyone on this occasion, but feel free to have a go if you wish!

Happy reading 🙂
