Monthly Wrap-Up – May 2019

Hello everyone,

The end of another month! Can you believe that we are almost halfway through 2019? It is just moving into summer in the UK and I am looking forward to spending lots of time reading outside.

May was my busiest and most productive month of the year so far. I read a total of seven books, which I am really happy with, and it helped me move a long way ahead of my Goodreads target.

I also had a short, but very busy holiday in North Wales, which included climbing up Mount Snowdon. The views were absolutely incredible, and we even had some snow at the summit. I have never done so much walking in one day in my life!

At the end of the month, I went to see Matilda: The Musical, a spectacular and very well staged adaptation of Roald Dahl’s book. Then I went to the Bath Festival for an author Q&A with Elizabeth Macneal (The Doll Factory) and Stacey Halls (The Familiars). It was very insightful and I got to leave with a beautiful signed copy of The Familiars!

So I definitely had a good May! Here are the books I read during the month:

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay (review)
The Mountain in my Shoe (review) ⭐⭐⭐.5
Changeling  (review) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
No Way Out (review) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Doll Factory (review) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Evidence Against You (review) ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (reread) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I hope I can read just as many fantastic books in June. It helps that I am rereading Harry Potter, but alongside that I am planning to finally read The Hate U Give. I am also aiming to make more progress with my writing, which has been fairly slow going so far this year.

To finish, here are a two outstanding blog posts I read during May:

Rita writes excellent discussion posts, and I really loved reading her thoughts on whether historical fiction should be accurate.

Norrie‘s blog posts are always thoughtful yet hilarious, and I particularly liked what she wrote about creativity and book covers.

How was your May? Do you have any goals for June? Let me know in the comments!

Happy reading 🙂

  1. Your reading month was really great! I’ve never even thought of rereading Harry Potter, just because they’re so long! Has your opinion of the world/characters/plot changed reading them this time around?
