Poem – To Be Read

Hello everyone,

I have written another poem that I would like to share with you. It is about having such a long TBR list and confronting the fact that I will probably never reach the end of it. I am sure many of you feel the same!

It may seem fairly short, but it took me a long time to write this poem. I almost had a meltdown because I found it so hard to think of my third verse. It is one of the most abstract poems I have written, so I hope you like it!

I scour the shelves
Confronted by wondrous infinity
Looking for the answer
Among endless possibilities

I am showered with questions
My eyes graze the beloved spines
Their titles stare back with mighty persuasion
Tapping into unfulfilled temptation

I make my choice and start again
On this lifelong bid to reach the end
For a second it seems it can be done
Until the ratio widens and the list grows again

It waits, looming large in my mind
It tightens its grip over my limited time
Standing patiently in its disarranged pile
That gradually rises exceedingly high

The pages that will not be flipped
The words never to be consumed
The adoring characters poised for neglect,
They will always be a source of regret

For the limit will never be reached
On account of the next new release,
And the cosmic library this world has amassed.
The life of a reader is truly never complete

Did you like this poem? Do let me know what you think!

Happy reading 🙂

  1. Lovely poem Stephen… You have stringed beautiful words together explaining the woe of every book addict… I may not have shelves or spines, but my kindle is overfilled with books… 📚📖♥️
