My Writing Week #3

Hello everyone,

I have taken some time out this week, to concentrate on a few things which I am unable to do as often as I would like because of the fact I work full-time.

Most of these things consist of writing, and although I probably haven’t achieved quite as much as I would have liked, I have definitely made some good progress towards finishing my current project.

That project is a biography of the footballer Joe Hart, which I began working on last September, but it is only in the last couple of months where I have really propelled myself forward and worked at a reasonable speed instead of procrastinating. This week I managed to pass the 40,000 word mark (I love it when I reach these milestones!). My target for the book is somewhere around 55,000, so I am gradually getting there.

My experience so far of writing a biography has taught me that it is a difficult balancing act between recounting events that involve the subject, and providing insight into their character and who they really are. Where to add a lot of detail and where not to add a lot of detail, that can be tricky and it may need to be refined during the editing stage.

But to be absolutely honest, I cannot wait to finish it! I would like to move out of my non-fiction comfort zone as soon as possible and get started on trying to write some fiction. I have spent some time this week generating ideas, and I have a couple written down, but building a story around them is definitely easier said than done!

Elsewhere this week, I am just about managing to keep on top of blogging and reading, in between watching the World Cup πŸ™‚ . I have just embarked on my first ever buddy read with my friend Gem of Glimpsing GemblesΒ – more on that another time!

So when I put it like that, it hasn’t been such a bad few days, but I think I will be happier once I return to work next week. Although it reduces my time to do other things, I totally love my job, and the structure it brings to my life.

Hope you all had a wonderful week!

Happy writing πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks, Lili πŸ™‚. When I put my mind to it I can write quickly, especially when I know what I’m writing about! But if I tried writing fiction I know I will find it very difficult to write anything to begin with…
How is your fantasy writing coming along? πŸ™‚
