My Writing Week #1
I have decided to start my first weekly themed post, and it will be all about my writing, and what I am currently working on.
Writing accounts for a lot of my time, and I have been on the go for five years now, so I thought I should finally share what I am doing a little more. After all, the tagline of this blog does state that it is partly about my writing life!
So right now my writing focus is on magazine work. I have been a contributor to a Canadian magazine for over four years now, and over the course of that time, the workload has steadily increased.
Earlier this week I received a copy of the latest issue. The production values are excellent, and as a writer I can genuinely say that it always feels special to see your work in print, and that feeling never wears off.
Yesterday I was assigned my work for the next issue, and I have again been given a lot of work, which always freaks me out to begin with! I have been given two large feature articles and one shorter article to do – a total of around 4,000 words, all to be done by the beginning of June. I said it was a lot of work!
The fact that I work full-time and that all my writing is done in my spare time makes it slightly more difficult, but I usually find a way of getting everything done before the deadlines – which are quite strict!
But on the bright side, the end result of seeing my work in the finished magazine is very rewarding, and I always enjoy the writing. Over time, my writing has developed so that it is well suited to the formal, analytical style that the magazine is looking for, so I always use it as an opportunity to showcase whatever writing talents I might have.
So, I think I’d better get to it. If I don’t get to blog as much as normal in the coming weeks, then that is the reason why 🙂
